Product questions come in all day. Stock changes and someone has to tell customers. A promotion needs copy by Friday. You want a faster way to get the first draft done without losing control of what your shop says about price and availability.
The training that fits a retail business is a hands-on session built around one repeated task, a product question reply, a stock update or a promotion, where you write the instructions with your own product and price information and test them on a safe example. We build training around your business tasks, source material and the output you need. Our public Sunshine Coast workshop gives you four hours to work on one repeated business task.
Key takeaways
- Bring one repeated retail task, product question replies, stock messages or promotion copy, and build a workflow you can run again. We teach business owners and teams how to use AI on the work their business repeats.
- The instructions use five inputs: Context, Task, Source, Rules and Output.
- You test the workflow on a safe example and check the draft against the product and price information you supplied.
- The public workshop runs four hours in person at A$495 including GST per person, capped at 15 paid attendees, with the date to be announced and a waitlist open now.
- Private onsite training is scoped for roughly 4–20 people, with a fixed quote after a conversation about tasks, location and experience.
Which retail tasks should you bring to an AI workshop?
Bring the work your shop repeats. We teach business owners and teams how to use AI on the work their business repeats, and we help you build and test a workflow you can use again.
Pick a specific piece of work: one product question you answer most weeks, one stock message you send to customers, or the copy for one promotion. Bring the information that job needs, the product details, the prices, the approved wording.
Your business task determines the training example. If the job runs through several stages, start with the drafting step. You can write the instructions for that step without connecting every system you run.
We work with business owners and teams across industries, so the retail example you bring sets the shape of your session.
How do you write AI instructions for a product question or stock update?
You write five inputs: Context, Task, Source, Rules and Output. Together they turn a repeated job into instructions you can run again.
- Context describes the business, customer and situation. Your shop, what you sell, who is asking.
- Task names the job the AI assistant needs to do. Draft the reply. Write the stock update. Produce the promotion copy.
- Source supplies the notes, documents or approved facts for that job. Your product details, your prices, your delivery terms.
- Rules set the limits and identify missing information to flag. No price the source does not carry. No stock claim you have not confirmed.
- Output describes the format and information the finished draft needs to contain. Length, tone, the fields that must appear.
Write the five inputs before you paste in your source material. They describe the job, and they give you the basis for checking the draft that comes back.
How do you check an AI draft before it reaches a customer?
You check the output against the information your business supplied. Compare product names, sizes, dates, prices and availability claims with your source. Recalculate any total. Check that the draft answers the customer's question and stays inside what you actually sell.
When the draft carries a claim your source does not support, point to it. Supply the missing fact, or ask the assistant to leave it as a question for you. Check the next draft for the same problem.
In the workshop, participants test the workflow on a safe example and check the result against their source material. The person responsible for the work approves the final version.

What do published AI-in-retail programmes say the technology is used for?
Published programmes cover a broad set of retail functions rather than one repeated task.
The Oxford Home Study course covers the principles of AI and its applications across various retail functions. 1 It describes AI changing retail through automation, data-driven insights and improved customer experiences, 2 and covers personalising customer interactions and streamlining inventory management to build a more efficient and customer-centric retail environment. 3 It also covers how AI supports smarter operations and retail innovation, 4 how data-driven insights help retailers increase sales and achieve better marketing results, 5 and how AI technologies can change retail practices so businesses stay competitive in a shifting market. 6
The Santa Clara University programme covers how generative AI improves product discovery, personalisation and decision-making on retail platforms, and how agentic AI systems change the roles of retailers and customers. 7 Participants see demand-side and supply-side applications, and learn how AI enables marketplaces, supply chains and predictive analytics in modern retail. 8 The programme states that retail is rapidly adopting generative AI and that employers expect graduates to be comfortable using these tools as part of everyday work. 9
That is the landscape. Your shop still needs one set of instructions for the reply you send fifty times a month.
How does a hands-on workshop compare with an online AI retail course?
The difference is what you walk out with. Our four-hour session produces a written workflow for one task in your business. Published courses produce coverage, a certificate or a portfolio.
| Our Sunshine Coast workshop | Published AI retail programmes | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | One repeated business task | AI technologies across the retail value chain from customer engagement and merchandising to logistics and operations 10 |
| Format | Four hours in person, your own laptop | Applied programme teaching how generative AI is used in modern retail and merchandising roles 11; a 30-minute training on applying AI across a business from sales to customer service 12 |
| Prompt work | Five inputs written with your product and price information | Core prompt techniques, zero-shot, few-shot and role-based, plus guardrails for accuracy, consistency and safety 13 |
| What you keep | The instructions and the example you tested | A prompt library built for safe deployment 14; a portfolio of hands-on projects 15 |
| Material | Your own product details, prices and approved wording | Real retailer case studies showing where AI use in merchandising makes sense and where it does not 16 |
The Santa Clara programme concentrates on practical skills over theory, designing prompts, evaluating AI outputs and turning results into business decisions, 17 and finishes with students designing and presenting a generative AI solution to a real retail problem. 18 We work the same way on a smaller frame: one task, your material, a tested draft by the end of the afternoon.
Can you run private AI training for your retail team on site?
Yes. We bring private AI training to your workplace, and we help your team agree on the source material, instructions and review process for a repeated task.
Private onsite AI training is available on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Noosa, Moreton Bay, Logan, Redlands, Toowoomba and Gympie. Sunshine Coast onsite training covers Maroochydore, Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Birtinya, Nambour and Coolum. Private training takes place at the team's workplace.
We scope private training around your team's tasks, experience and location. After your enquiry, we discuss those three things, agree on the scope and prepare a fixed quote. Team size, session length and travel determine the price.
Private sessions are scoped for roughly 4–20 people. Larger teams can be split across sessions. Each person brings the laptop they will use afterwards, and we confirm tool and account requirements during scoping.
What AI implementation work sits behind this training?
We build these workflows in real businesses, not only in workshops.
We helped automate Radiant Roof Repairs' internal processes using AI. We used AI to automate SEO, enquiries and admin for Glen House Homoeopathy. In our own business, Searchmaxxed, we built AI workflows for creating blog posts, doing SEO and preparing custom proposals.
The same method carries across trades, real estate, accounting and retail: one repeated task, your source material, instructions you can run again.
Frequently asked questions
Who are these AI workshops for in a retail business?
Business owners and the people who do the repeated writing. We work with business owners and teams across industries, so a shop owner, a store manager and the person answering product questions all fit the room.
Do you need technical experience to join?
No. You build on your own laptop with hands-on help through the session. For private training, we scope around your team's tasks, experience and location, so the starting point matches the people in the room.
What should you bring to the workshop?
Bring a laptop, a charger and a safe task example. Each person brings the laptop they will use afterwards. Tool and account requirements are confirmed during scoping.
What kind of retail task should you bring?
Bring one task your business repeats, a product question reply, a stock update or promotion copy. Your business task determines the training example, so the more specific it is, the more you take home.
What does the A$495 ticket include?
A$495 including GST per person covers the four-hour in-person session.

Is this an online AI course?
No. Private training takes place at the team's workplace, and the public workshop runs in person on the Sunshine Coast. People from other areas can travel to the Sunshine Coast public workshop.
How is this different from free AI tutorials?
You leave with instructions built on your own product and price information. A short online training covers applying AI across a business from sales to customer service in 30 minutes. 12 In our session you keep the instructions and the example you tested.
Can you arrange private training for a retail team?
Yes. Private sessions are scoped for roughly 4–20 people, and larger teams can be split across sessions. A fixed quote follows a conversation about the team's tasks, location and experience.
